Netball’s Superleague, which started in October 2005, is a thrilling new national competition which will feature leading players from all over the British Isles in a season-long competition. Spectators will be able to see some of the most exciting up and coming players in the country, alongside established internationals, in this elite competition which will run right through until February 2006.
Unlike the previous netball Super Cup, there will be no athlete allocation, although the number of England senior and overseas players able to take the court at any one time will be limited. However, players will be free to choose the most appropriate team for their needs, and trials will commence shortly for all the franchises.
Nigel Holl is excited at the prospects for the new competition: "We believe that the Super League will produce ‘to the wire’ games week in week out, and this increased competition can only benefit out elite and developing athletes. Super League is all about providing top quality netball matches all round the country, which spectators will love and athletes will enjoy participating in. It’s going to be amazing!"
