SA netball team face tough test against Jamaica
2008/11/12 - Dispatch Online
THE Spar South African netball team kick off their Caribbean tour against hosts Jamaica in their first match of a Tri-Nations tournament.
The Jamaicans, ranked fifth in the world, go into the match brimming with confidence following a 59-30 defeat of eighth placed fellow islanders Trinidad and Tobago in Monday night’s opening clash.
The Proteas’ moral is at an all-time high after the recent 3-0 clean-sweep over Barbados in Cape Town last month.
However, the South Africans are well aware of the tougher challenge posed by the two nations who are ranked significantly higher than the Bajans and have a more physical approach to the game.
They will play their second match of the tournament against Trinidad and Tobago today with the finals between the two top teams scheduled for tomorrow.
l The SA team is: Liezel Wium (capt), Precious Mthembu (v-capt), Tsakane Mbewe, Erin Burger, Claudia Basson, Zanele Mdodane, Amanda Mynhardt, Mary Ngwenya, Nontle Gwavu, Simone van Heerden, Refiloe Mochaka and Zukelwa Cwaba. — Sapa
