NZ Age Group Netball Championships approaching
Friday, 4 July 2008 - Netball New Zealand
Twenty-six regional U19 and U21 teams will gather in Hamilton from Monday 14 to Friday 18 July to represent their regions in the New Zealand Age Group Netball Championships. The full draw is available here.
Minogue Park will host 400 players, coaches and officials with 100 games played during the week. The competition is made up of sixteen Under-19 and ten Under- 21 Regional and Centre-based teams.
Netball New Zealand Game Development Manager Kate Agnew says the New Zealand Age Group Championships is a key event in the Netball New Zealand Calendar for young players and enables them to test their skills against New Zealand’s emerging talent.
“The Age Group Championships is a very competitive tournament with U19 and U21 players giving everything they can for their region, but also hoping to catch the eye of the National Selectors,” she said.
“With the Netball World Youth Championships next year, every player will be looking to put their best foot forward for selection”.
The NZU21 team won the gold medal at the 2005 World Youth Championships. This team produced five current members of the Silver Ferns squad: Laura Langman, Maria Tutaia, Casey Williams, Liana Barrett-Chase and Katrina Grant.
Each day's tournament play will begin at 9:00am. Results will be emailed to Netball New Zealand’s results list daily at the conclusion of play, and posted on the Netball New Zealand website as soon as possible after the conclusion of each game.
