Milika Munivai remains Netball Fiji president
NETBALL Fiji's Milika Munivai was retained as president at the annual general meeting held at the Fiji Association of Sports and National Committee headquarters in Suva yesterday.
She was among four other executives elected with four committee members. National netball team manger Sainiana Koroi Khalik said the secretary's position remained vacant.
"I have volunteered to act in the position until a suitable candidate is selected," she said.
"With the new elected members, this will now enable us to strengthen the team's development."
Khalik said votes for the president's position ended in a tie between Munivai and former journalist Wainikiti Waqa-Bogidrau but with the cut in votes, Munivai came out on top.
Financial members Northland, Suva, Vatukaloko, Ba, Tailevu, Nadi, and Nasinu were present at the meeting together with FASANOC head Vidya Lakhan.
Prior to the election, Munivai had sought Lakhan's advice for clarification regarding its constitution. In response Lakhan stated in a letter that the "Constitution was adopted by Netball Fiji on January 20, 2008, is valid and in force provided it was adopted at a properly constituted General Meeting of Netball Fiji where the required quorum was present and the Constitution was adopted by two thirds majority."
Regarding its election, it further stated that a special general meeting held in March 2008 was to elect office bearers of Netball Fiji.
"The elections would have been held in accordance with the Constitution ie the officers elected will serve a period of four years and in accordance with the January Constitution, any vacancies on the executive committee are to be filled by the council.
"The officers appointed will hold office only until the next Annual General Meeting, at which time they should vacate their seats and fresh elections should be held. The officers so elected will vacate office at the Annual General Meeting held in 2012."
