This month, on the NetballOnline hotseat, I catch up with Netball Australia’s Marketing coordinator, Rebecca Obrien. There have been numerous claims by netball fans that those working at Netball Australia spend most of their working day treating themselves to homemade scones and cups of tea. However, the truth is, there are plenty within the team at Netball Australia who are working desperately, with limited resources, to make netball the successful sport we all want it to be.

The coaches would have near completed their job before going into the Commonwealth Games. They would have had their players trained up on their skills, their fitness, and fully focused on what they have to do out on court. Their hardest job of all is to have each elite player apply what they have. It is up to the player to perform to the best of their ability and help their team to a win.

TeamBath defeat Northumbria

In a fairly comfortable, but somewhat lacklustre performance today, TeamBath defeated Northumbria 67 - 34. Bath and Northumbria traded goals from end to end in the first quarter, Northumbria managing to edge ahead on several occasions, Bath then pegging them back, until about 10 minutes into the quarter when Bath began to exert their authority on the game. The Q ended with a score of 14-9 to Bath, with the first period marred by some uncharacteristic mistakes from the southern side.

Ruth Aitken: the Coach, the Mother, the Vision

Ruth Aitken, the newest Vodafone Silver Ferns coach, is taller than I imagined, either that or I’m just short and at 5’3” (157cm) even my 14 year old daughter is taller than I am. But is it her height that makes Ruth Aitken stand out, or perhaps as the coach of New Zealands highest profile womens sports team it’s hard to go unnoticed.
